  • Infection of the cornea (clear window at front of eye)

  • Affects vision; rapidly progressive over 3 days (time is cornea)

  • vs conjunctivitis – watery but otherwise normal vision

  1. Is vision affected? – cover the other eye to check – with usual distance glasses on if worn

  2. look closely at the eye with your phone torch, carefully lifting the upper lid if necessary to have a clear look

  • Bacterial Keratitis may be seen as a white spot on the cornea

  • The eye may be very painful

  • If you have concerns please contact the eye team, via switchboard as soon as possible for an opinion
